About DAKINE Based in Hood River, Oregon, DAKINE was founded in Maui, Hawai'i in 1979 by longtime surfer, Rob Kaplan. DAKINE'S first product, a revolutionary new surf leash, quickly gained worldwide popularity. This first leash led to more surfing related products, built to withstand the punishing conditions of the surf on the north shore of Hawai'i. In Hawaiian slang, "Da Kine" means the best and the company has lived up to this standard through attention to detail, focus on accessories, and a notoriously thorough design process. With its reputation for top quality products and attention to detail, DAKINE quickly grew beyond its surfing roots and has become the standard in board sports accessories for the top athletes in the worlds of snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, mountain biking, windsurfing, and kiteboarding, as well as surfing. To better serve the growing worldwide demand for DAKINE product, a factory and distribution center were opened in Hood River, Oregon in 1986 and the facility soon replaced operations on Maui's north shore to become the principal factory and point of distribution. DAKINE's Oregon location, in the heart of the Gorge and the base of Mount Hood--a hot spot with North American windsurfers and snowboarders--also helps the company maintain its competitive edge by giving the product development team a demanding new environment for developing and testing products. A testament to the standards and success of DAKINE product, the pro team roster reads like a who's-who of action sports. | |
Today, DAKINE offers a complete range of innovative products, including sport-specific and street-savvy backpacks, bags, travel gear, and accessories as well as a fashionable girl's bag collection. The company remains focused on building durable, innovative products of the best quality for the most demanding action sports athletes. The original quest led by a group of dedicated surfers has taken on a life of its own and has spread throughout all board sports. For 30 years, this passion has given DAKINE its longevity in the action sports industry and has personified its reputation for excellence.

| Customer Reviews: Absolutely Necessary for Snowboarding July 6, 2010 Gilgamesh (New Jersey) You won't even know you are wearing the DAKINE Men's Wristguard, but your wrists will thank you!
NO WRIST GUARDS=TROUBLE
I picked up snowboarding last winter, and the first couple of times I foolishly went to the mountain without any wrist protection. BAD IDEA. I came home with sore and tender wrists each time, and looking back on the experience, I consider myself extremely lucky to have gotten off so easy. If not these wrist guards, you should DEFINITELY wear something when you are learning (don't wait until later), because that is when you fall the worst. I cannot tell you how many times I fell backwards onto my wrists, even though I knew in my head that it was the worst thing I could do.
WRIST GUARDS OUTSIDE THE GLOVE
I figured out that I needed to wear something, and the next couple of times I used wrist protectors that fit over the glove. They drastically cut down on the trauma I was inflicting on my wrists, and convinced me about the value of protection, but they were bulky. I was keenly aware that I was wearing them.
WRIST GUARDS INSIDE THE GLOVE
Then, I found out about these wrist guards for under the glove. They fit easily into my gloves and I completely forgot that I had them on--until I fell. I took some pretty nasty falls, and thanks to these, my wrists were just fine.
COMPLETE PROTECTION?
Nothing will protect you 100%. You still need to avoid falling on your wrists as much as possible. However, when it does happen (unexpectedly catching an edge and landing hard on your outstretched hands), at least you significantly increase the odds of getting up without injury.
Dakine Wristguard January 23, 2010 Mister Dee (Northeast Pennsylvania) Good design, your gloves fit over these with no problem, I ordered a large but should have ordered an extra large because these are a little tight and uncomfortable around my wrist since. If the velcro strap around the wrist was just a little bigger it would be perfect.
Decent... June 11, 2010 Meaty Bone I bought a pair of these my first season snowboarding, knowing wrist injuries have the highest rate of any injury among snowboarders. I fractured both my wrists (on separate occasions) while wearing these wrist guards. Yes, it does give you added stability on impact, and is much better than riding with nothing, but they should really have more support. Also, these do not interface well with low-profile gloves.
